Watch out for the "free" piano on Facebook Marketplace, that thing cost me $340 and a whole Saturday
Back in March I drove 45 minutes to a suburb outside Columbus to grab a free upright piano a lady posted on Facebook Marketplace, and 3 guys were already there before me fighting over it in her driveway. She picked me because I brought a dolly, but the piano smelled like wet dog and had a crusty brown ring under one of the keys. I paid $340 for a U-Haul, movers, and a tuner who laughed at me over the phone and said the soundboard was cracked in 4 spots. Now it sits in my garage with a tarp on it because no one will take it even for free. Has anyone actually scored a decent free instrument off Marketplace, or is this just how it always goes?
