I flagged 200 fake rental ads in 3 months and everyone told me I was wasting my time
So back in January I started keeping a spreadsheet of rental listings on Craigslist in my area that were obviously scams, and last week I hit 200. Everyone in my local Facebook group keeps saying just ignore them, the site is dead, who cares. I disagree. Here is what I saw in those 200 posts. About 160 of them used the exact same stock photo of a gray couch, and 40 had a phone number that traced back to the same area code in another state. One ad in March listed a 2 bedroom near downtown for $650, which is about $1,100 under the normal rate here. The wording gave it away too, things like god fearing tenant and kindly reply for details. The tell nobody mentions is the reply email always ends in a random string of letters, never a real name. The site does not need to be dead, people just stopped reporting. Does anyone here still flag stuff or did everyone give up too?
