Bought a 'vintage' blender on FB Marketplace and it smoked out my kitchen last Tuesday

I was feeling nostalgic for those old Oster blenders my grandma had, the ones with the metal base that weigh like 20 lbs. Found one for $15 from a seller in Arlington and she swore it worked fine. Got it home, plugged it in to make a smoothie, and smoke started pouring out the bottom after like 10 seconds. Turns out the motor was completely shot and the wiring was frayed inside. The seller blocked me when I messaged her about it. Anybody else get burned on a retro appliance that looked way cooler than it actually worked?

My cousin picked up one of those old Hamilton Beach mixers from a thrift store last month... same thing happened to her on her first batch of cookies. The smell was terrible and she said the smoke detector went off and her whole apartment smelled like burnt plastic for days. It's such a bummer because those retro blenders look so cool on the counter, but the wiring is usually just too old and dried out to handle any real use.
