The load chart said 9,000 lbs but the scale at the yard in Newark said 11,400
Picked a bundled HVAC unit off a flatbed at a job site near Newark on Tuesday and the rigging felt heavier than the chart said it should. I stopped the pick about 4 feet up, set it back down, and walked over to the shipping papers, and sure enough the bundle weight included the pallet and straps nobody counted. Called the yard and they weighed it at 11,400 against a 9,000 chart number, so we swapped to a bigger rig and re-rigged with a spreader bar. Took an extra 40 minutes and the super was not happy, but that pick was not going up on my watch. How do you all handle shipper weights you don't trust, do you always ask for a scale ticket?
