Serious question, who else pads the counterweight pins with old inner tube and calls it done
The pins on my old Grove were slapping around so bad you could hear the ring from the cab, and it drove me crazy for about 6 months. I tried greasing everything first, then new cotter pins, then shimming with washers, and none of it lasted more than a week. What actually worked was cutting strips out of a bike inner tube and wrapping the pins before the counterweight goes on, maybe 3/16 inch thick so it snugged up tight. Pulled a 40 ton pick last Tuesday on the south bank site and there was zero rattle the whole shift. It costs nothing, takes about 10 minutes, and the tube holds up fine under the weights. Curious if anyone has a better fix for sloppy pin bores, because I know this is basically a band aid.
