Getting a boom pin to slide back in took me 11 hours and a lot of swearing
Had to swap the telescope cylinder on our 60 ton Liebherr last Tuesday and figured it would be a 4 hour job at most. Getting the old pin out at the base of the boom took 20 minutes, no problem. Getting the new one back in was a whole different story, it would not line up no matter what we tried. We fought it from 2pm until almost 1am the next morning with pry bars, a rosebud torch, and two portapowers. Turned out the boom sat about 3/8 of an inch out of alignment from where the old cylinder had been shimmed over the years. Has anyone else run into a boom that fought back like that, and is there a trick for lining the pin holes up that I'm missing?
