Warning: I heard a client say she only washes her hair once a month to 'train' it.
She was talking to another person in my chair yesterday about her routine. She said she uses a lot of dry shampoo and thinks her scalp is healthier this way. It made me realize how much bad advice is out there about hair care. I had to gently explain why that can cause buildup and scalp issues. Has anyone else had to correct a client on a really strange hair care myth they picked up online?

Oh man, that reminds me of my friend who got convinced she should "scrub" her scalp with just baking soda and vinegar, no shampoo at all. She did it for weeks because some blog said it was "natural detoxing." It got so bad, her scalp was flaky and itchy, and her hair felt like straw. She finally went to a stylist who was just like, "Please stop, you're basically putting a science fair volcano on your head." It took a couple deep-cleansing treatments to fix the mess. The internet is full of some truly wild ideas.

Honestly the baking soda thing worked great for my dandruff when nothing else did.
