Switched from drugstore shampoo to salon quality and my hair actually changed

I used to think all shampoos were basically the same so I bought whatever was on sale at Walgreens for years. Last month I finally tried a professional brand from my stylist, Redken something or other, and the difference was NIGHT and DAY. My color stopped fading after just 2 washes and my scalp isn't dry anymore. It cost me $28 for a bottle but I only wash twice a week so it's lasting way longer than I thought. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a huge difference with their clients or themselves?

I mean, $28 for shampoo sounds like a lot. I get that it worked for you, but my drugstore stuff has been fine for years and my hair looks okay. Maybe it's just me but I don't think most people are gonna see that big of a difference unless their hair is already damaged or they're using really harsh stuff. My sister spends like $40 on her salon shampoo and honestly her hair looks the same as before, just costs more. I'd rather put that money towards a good conditioner or a haircut. To each their own though.

Funny you mention that, I actually read somewhere that drugstore shampoos use detergents that can strip natural oils over time, which is why some people's hair gets greasier faster. My wife used to swear by her $10 stuff until she tried a sample of mine and noticed her color didn't fade as much between appointments. The difference isn't always visible right away, it's more about how your hair feels after a few weeks of regular use. That said, I get the price thing - $28 is still steep for something you run through in a month. Have you ever tried one of those travel sizes first to see if it's worth it for you?
