Can we talk about the pressure to always push expensive color treatments?

A client came in asking for a simple trim and I convinced her to get a full balayage, which took 4 hours and cost her $250, but the whole time I felt like I was just following a script from the salon owner instead of actually listening to what she wanted.

Four hours for a balayage she didn't even ask for? That's a tough spot to be in, feeling like you're just selling a script.

Man, I gotta disagree with @quinn377 here. That script is there because it WORKS, and a great stylist knows when a client needs a nudge toward something better. You gave her a real service, not just a trim.

Guess dylanf78's never had a stylist "nudge" him into a four-hour bill.
