A client told me my blowouts were too tight and it clicked

I was doing a blowout for a regular client about three months ago, and she said something that stopped me. She said, 'Cameron, my scalp is always sore for two days after I see you.' I was using my usual technique, sectioning hair really small and pulling the brush super tight to get that smooth look. I thought that was just how you did it. But her comment made me realize I was focusing on the hair, not the person. I started practicing on my mannequin with much less tension, holding the brush looser and letting the nozzle do more of the work. The results are still smooth, but now I ask every client about scalp comfort during the service. How do you guys balance tension for style with keeping things comfortable?

That's a great question. Mine is just called Bob, which is pretty boring now that I think about it. Some people get really creative and give them full backstories. It would be fun to have a whole theme going with names.
