The 2003 Geocities page that predicted my router issues
Found this old networking site from someone in Ohio, it still had a working traceroute tool. Guy who ran it said most problems are DNS, not hardware. Ignored him for a week, swapped out a perfectly good modem and paid $80 for nothing. Checked his page again and he was right, reset my DNS cache and everything worked. Anyone else got advice from some ancient site that beat the modern forums?

Old sites get lucky guesses all the time, that DNS thing is just the first thing anyone tries. You probably had a flaky ISP or a bad cable, not some magic router fix. Modern forums would've told you to check your DNS first too, you just didn't want to hear it.
