My uncle showed me a GeoCities page he made in 1999 and it's still up, guestbook and all
So my uncle was over at my place in Sacramento last weekend and somehow we got talking about the old web. He goes quiet for a sec, then asks if I want to see something. He pulls out his phone right there at the kitchen table and types in this GeoCities URL he still has memorized. It loaded. Like, fully loaded. His page from 1999 about his coin collection, with a tiled star background and a MIDI file that started blaring through his phone speaker. The best part is the guestbook. People signed it as recently as 2021, just random folks who stumbled in and left stuff like 'nice dimes' and 'cool page, RIP GeoCities.' I always figured all that old stuff got wiped when the sites shut down, but his little corner survived on some mirror and nobody ever took it down. Now I'm wondering how much other stuff is still sitting out there, just humming along with zero visitors. Has anyone here ever tried hunting down their own old page, and did you actually find it still live?
