Vent: I tracked a local news story for 30 days and saw something weird
There was a chemical spill story near my town, Greenville. The first report said 100 gallons leaked. Next day, the official statement said 50. A week later, the paper called it a 'minor incident'. I kept every article. The facts kept shrinking each time. No correction notices. It made me think. Maybe some 'debunking' just makes a story go away instead of solving it. Has anyone else watched a story change like that over time?

Yeah I've seen that happen, it's like the story just fades away.

Nah, that "fades away" feeling isn't my experience. Some stories stick with me for YEARS, like they're part of my own memory. The good ones leave behind a specific mood or a clear image I can't shake.

I used to think stories just faded too, but I read this one book like 15 years ago and I still remember the exact smell of the rain in the opening scene. It totally changed my mind.
