TIL some techs refuse to use thermal paste from certain brands - is this gatekeeping or real science?

It reminds me of how some people only buy certain brands of tools or kitchen knives because they swear the cheaper ones just don't hold up. There's probably real chemistry differences between pastes, but a lot of it feels like personal preference turned into gospel. Ever notice how these debates always pop up in hobbies where people have strong opinions about "proper" gear?

Started buying cheap thermal paste for my first couple builds and honestly I regretted it every time. Had one tube that dried out completely after six months and another that was so thick it felt like I was spreading peanut butter. Switched to a mid-range name brand and it just works better, goes on smooth and stays put. I still dont buy the most expensive stuff because I think a lot of the hype is just people wanting to feel like theyre using the "pro" gear. But I also wont go back to the super cheap stuff after seeing how big the difference actually was for me.
