Refurbished drives used to scare me, now they're all I buy for backups

For years I would only buy brand new drives for client backups, no exceptions. Then about 8 months ago a customer in Denver wanted a cheap offsite backup and refused to pay for a new 8TB drive. I grabbed a recertified one from a seller I'd been watching, ran it through a full surface scan for 2 days, and it passed without a single bad sector. Since then I've deployed maybe 15 of those same drives for other folks and only one had to be RMA'd, which is honestly better than my failure rate on new consumer drives. The key for me was finding sellers that publish their SMART data and offer a 90 day warranty minimum. Has anyone else had luck with recertified hardware or am I just riding a lucky streak?
