PSA: That $25 data recovery USB dongle was pure snake oil
Bought one of those cheap USB to SATA adapters advertised as 'recover deleted files instantly' off eBay last month. Plugged in my customer's old drive and it just made clicking noises, no data came back. Lost $25 and 2 hours of my Saturday plus the drive was worse off than before. Anyone else get burned by those sketchy recovery tools or should I just stick with sending drives to a real lab in Austin next time?
