I fixed 23 dead hard drives last month and only 2 were actually dead, what gives
I mean, I'm not complaining about the money, but 21 out of 23 just needed new SATA cables or a reseated power connector and the customer had already bought a replacement drive. Maybe it's just me but I feel like a jerk charging a bench fee when it was a $4 cable in a Dell tower from 2017. Has anyone else seen this many "dead" drives that were really just loose connections?
Sounds like half your job is just being a glorified cable jiggler at this point. Customer buys a whole new drive over a loose plug and you get paid to push it back in, that is some easy money right there. Just tell yourself you are billing for the knowledge of which cable to wiggle.
