Hot take: everyone keeps swapping parts on a slow PC before checking the power supply
Had a customer bring in a desktop last month that three other shops had worked on, and every one of them replaced the RAM, the drive, and even the CPU cooler, but nobody tested the PSU. The machine kept random restarting under load and the 12V rail was sagging to 10.9V when I put my meter on it. A $15 tester I keep in my bag found it in two minutes, and a new 500W unit fixed the whole thing for under $60. I've seen this same thing happen at least six times in the past twelvemonths, and it bugs me because a multimeter and a load test are basic steps. Cheap caps age out and the rails drift way before the thing dies completely, so you chase ghosts in the OS instead. Has anyone else caught a PSU that looked fine at idle but fell apart under any real load?
