Overheard a guy at the shop trash talking people who bag their comics

I was at my LCS on Wednesday pulling my pull list, and this dude next to me said anyone who bags and boards their books is just hoarding plastic and doesn't actually read them. He claimed he keeps every issue loose in a shoebox and it's the only honest way. I get the argument about not sealing away the story, but I've seen what humidity does to unbagged books in Florida summers, and it's not pretty. My copy of Amazing Spider-Man #361 from 1991 still looks near mint because I bagged it the day I bought it, so is he really onto something or just being contrarian for attention?
