I found out Batman's cape color was changed for a printing reason, and it ruined a 20 year argument with my brother
My brother and I have argued since we were kids about whether Batman's cape and cowl were originally black or blue. Last week I was flipping through a reprint of Detective Comics #27 at a comic shop in Tulsa and noticed a note in the back about color separation. Turns out in the early days the cape was sometimes colored blue because black ink on cheap newsprint made it hard to see the outlines and details. The blue was basically there so the art would show up on the page. My brother called it a win for him, but I told him it was never really about the color at all. Now I need to know if other Golden Age heroes got the same treatment or if this was just a Batman thing.
