Buddy told me I was paneling wrong, turned out he was right
My friend Mike who collects silver age stuff said I was flipping through my comics wrong. He said I was bending the spine too much and it would split eventually. I laughed it off last summer but after 6 months of casual reading my Invincible compendium has a 3 inch crack down the middle. Now I gotta rebuy that thing for $60 because I didn't listen. Anyone else have a friend give advice that actually saved them money if they'd just listened sooner?

Actually that 3 inch crack sounds like it might be from the binding glue drying out more than the way you flipped pages. I had a similar split on my Invincible compendium and it was the adhesive failing, not my reading habits. Mike was right about spine bending though, that part is true. But factory defects happen a lot with those thick paperbacks, the glue just isn't meant to hold that many pages forever. You might try contacting Image about it, they sent me a replacement once when my first printing split weird. I also started using a book cradle for heavy omnibuses, keeps the weight even so the spine doesn't get that same stress.

Man I had that exact same thing happen with my Watchmen Absolute Edition, cracked spine in like two months.
