Vent: My week started with a coolant line blowing off at 7 AM
It sprayed the entire Haas VF2 and the floor, took an hour to clean up. Then the new guy loaded a 4140 steel job with the wrong offset, scraped a $200 vise jaw. Thursday, the shop AC died and it hit 95 degrees by the bay doors. By Friday afternoon I was just glad nothing else broke. Anyone else have a run of small things that just snowball into a terrible week?

That "wrong offset" on the 4140 job, did the new guy just guess or was he not shown the right way?

We had a guy last year who just eyeballed the cut on a 12-foot plank. In my experience, nobody shows them the math anymore.

That line about nobody showing the math is so true. A buddy of mine watched an apprentice try to freehand a bevel cut on a staircase stringer, total mess. It's like what @uma_nelson85 was getting at, is the person just guessing or were they never taught? They had to redo the whole thing because the angles were off by a few degrees. Seems like the basic skills are getting lost somewhere.
