Update: found out the coolant sump on our older mill holds 55 gallons, not the 15 I guessed
I pulled the maintenance binder on our 2004 Haas VF-2 after it started foaming up on a hot Monday run, and the spec sheet says the sump holds 55 gallons. I had been topping it off with maybe 15 gallons for months, thinking that was a full change, so we were running on mostly old fluid the whole time. The binder was sitting in the bottom drawer under a stack of old setup sheets, which is why it took me a year to find it. Now I'm wondering how much of our finish problems on aluminum were just bad coolant. Does anybody keep a cheat sheet taped to the machine with sump capacities, or is it just me who learned the hard way?
