Just realized the local shop floor temp swings more than I thought

Was checking tolerances on a 304 stainless job at Anderson Metal down the street and the part grew 0.002 from 7am to noon just from the sun coming through the overhead doors has anyone else dealt with thermal drift from building layout?

Read an article in Modern Machine Shop about shops switching to white roofs and insulated overhead doors to cut down on morning thermal shift... 0.002 is a lot in one shift just from sunlight. 247 daylight runs a few local shops and they started scheduling their tight tolerance work for late afternoon because the concrete floor evens out by then.

Yeah we've seen the same thing, it's crazy how much the building itself moves before lunch.
