Shoutout to the retired lineman in Tulsa who told me to stop washing my solar panels
I built a 12 panel array on my garage roof two springs back and figured I had to hose it down every month to keep it making power. Then my neighbor Dale, who ran lines for the utility for 31 years, caught me up there with a hose and flat out told me to quit it. He said the dust only costs you a couple percent, and that hard water spots and cold water on hot glass do more harm than good. I ignored him for a while, then in July I sprayed a hot panel and heard a little tick. That sold it. I switched to just rinsing them twice a year after a good rain and my monthly numbers barely moved. He was right and I wasted half a summer dragging a hose around. Anyone else get told by an old hand that they were overdoing it?
