Dropped $180 on a home energy meter last spring and it finally showed me where my bill was hiding
I clipped it on the main breaker in my garage in Tacoma and found out my old chest freezer was eating $14 a month for nothing. If you have not checked yours, what is the one appliance you would be scared to put a meter on?
Always figured those energy meters were just a gadget for people who like charts and numbers, figured my bill was what it was and nothing I could do about it. Then a buddy lent me his and my garage fridge turned out to be the thief, close to $20 a month just humming away out there for beer and old popsicles. That freezer of yours at $14 is a win, but the one I would be scared to hook up is the water heater, because I have a feeling it is the quiet killer in my house. Some things you just do not want to know, but now I do want to know, so there goes another weekend project.
