Appreciation post: the little green bin in my kitchen that I was filling wrong for 2 years
I was tossing greasy pizza boxes and wet coffee grounds right into my recycling bin for 2 years until a guy at the transfer station in Boise pointed at my truck bed and asked why my cardboard was soaked. He explained that wet paper ruins the whole batch and grease makes it unrecyclable, so my "good" habit was actually sending everything to the landfill anyway. I started scraping my plates into a compost pail first and keeping cardboard dry in a separate stack, and my bin went from overflowing every week to half full on pickup day. I timed it, I went from 6 bags of trash a week down to 3 just by that one change. Does anyone else have a small fix like this that made a bigger difference than they expected?
