Appreciation post: lunch lady at my kid's school got me thinking differently about food waste
Last week I was dropping off my daughter and saw this woman named Susan separating leftover milk cartons from the trash bin. She told me the school goes through about 200 cartons a day and she started rinsing them out for a local pig farm, lol. It's such a small thing but it made me realize how much we just toss without thinking. Anyone else have a random person change how you look at waste?

oh man that lady Susan sounds awesome. i had something kind of similar happen at my old job actually. there was this guy in the break room who would take all the banana peels and coffee grounds home for his compost pile, he said he saved like 50 bucks a month on fertilizer. it's wild how one person's trash is another person's treasure and we just don't think about it because it's so automatic to chuck everything in the bin. now i keep a little bag in my fridge for carrot tops and eggshells, not even for any specific reason, just because it feels wrong to toss them after seeing that.

I started doing the same thing with my coffee grounds after seeing a neighbor toss them in his garden. Now I just keep a small container on the counter and dump them around my tomato plants every couple days.
