I torqued my lug nuts with an impact gun for 12 years until a front wheel walked off my '69 Chevelle on Route 9
I always figured my arm was calibrated enough with a 2 foot breaker bar plus one good ugga dugga, and nothing ever went wrong on the dozens of tire swaps I did in my own driveway in Poughkeepsie. A tire guy named Sal looked at my rotor hat, saw the ovaled stud holes, and said 'those didn't stretch, you stretched them,' which sent me down a rabbit hole on torque specs I had ignored my whole life. How many of you are still doing the impact gun and pray method, and has it ever actually come back to bite you?
