Walked into a diner kitchen last week and saw something unexpected
I stopped at a little breakfast spot called The Griddle on Route 9 after dropping my kid off. The cook was using a pair of needle-nose pliers to flip bacon on the flat top. He told me he lost his metal spatula three weeks ago and just never bothered to replace it. Has anyone else come across weird makeshift tools in a professional kitchen that actually kind of work?

Wait, three weeks? He just couldn't buy a new one? That's wild.

Walked into my own kitchen one time and used a butter knife to flip pancakes because I couldn't find the spatula in the drawer. Turns out it actually works okay if you don't mind bending the knife a little. But three weeks with pliers? That's a whole other level of stubborn. I'm pretty sure I'd lose my mind after day two and just use a fork or something.
