Learned a quick knife sharpening trick at a popup in Austin last weekend

One of the cooks there showed me how to use a coffee mug's unglazed rim to touch up my edge mid-shift. Has anyone else tried this for a quick fix between proper stones?

Wait, is this really that serious though? I mean, I've done the coffee mug thing a few times when I was stuck at a tailgate with dull kitchen knives and no stones around. It kinda works for a quick stopgap but honestly, I feel like you're better off just buying a cheap pull-through sharpener for 10 bucks. The mug rim leaves a pretty rough edge compared to a proper stone, and I've heard it can actually chip your blade if you're not careful with the angle.

Seems like everything's a quick hack now instead of just learning to do it right the first time.
