Shoutout to the Mecklenburg County tax lookup for saving me $40k on a Steele Creek house
I was about to make an offer on a place off Steele Creek Road a couple weeks back and the listing said the taxes were around $2,100 a year. Something felt off, so I pulled the parcel up on the county site and the actual assessed value was way higher than the listing number suggested. Ran the math with the real value and it came out to about $4,600 a year, which over a 30 year loan is close to $40k more than I budgeted for. The seller's agent basically shrugged and said they went off the prior year's bill, but the county had already reappraised it. I walked away and honestly felt lucky I checked. Has anyone else run into listings here where the tax figure just does not match what the county has on record?
