My barber on Central Ave told me his landlord wants $1,400 for his chair space now, used to be $300

I've been getting my hair cut at the same spot near Plaza Midwood for almost a decade. Last Friday my barber Marcus mentioned his lease jumped from $300 to $1,400 a month for his chair, and he's worried the whole shop might move out toward Gastonia. It got me thinking about how many of these little spots on Central Ave have disappeared since I moved here in 2015, replaced by apartments I can't afford. Anyone else noticing their regular shops getting pushed out, or is it just the blocks I hang around?
