I was on a job in Akron last week and the homeowner's dad, who installed carpets for 30 years, watched me seam a patterned berber. He said I should stop fighting the pattern at the seam and instead cut both pieces from the same roll end to end, like he did with a 1970s shag that had big medallions. I tried it on a tricky diagonal hallway and the match came out way cleaner, plus it saved me about 20 minutes of fiddling. Has anyone else used that roll-end trick, or do you usually stick with the traditional seam method?
