Realized 6 months in that I was cutting carpet against the pile the whole time
Had a guy named Ray walk my job in Boise after a homeowner complained about shading. He ran his hand across the seam, looked at me, and just said "which way does it lay?" I said I always cut from the back so the numbers line up. He laughed. Spent the next hour showing me why direction of pile matters more than matching the roll edges, and I had 3 rooms in that house going the wrong way. Re-did 40 yards on my own dime. Anybody else get taught to cut by the backing and not the pile? Or was that just my shop being lazy?
