Rant: pulled up 40 year old shag in a Maple Grove split level and the plywood underneath was almost black
Got called out to rip out this green shag from a house off 694 that had carpet down since 1983, and the homeowner swore it never got wet. Soon as I pulled the first corner back near the sliding door, the staples came out with chunks of wood stuck to them. Turns out the old wax ring on the toilet upstairs had been weeping for who knows how long, and it ran under the tack strip in the hallway. Ended up cutting out about 8 square feet of subfloor and sistering in new ply before I could even think about tacking anything down. Has anyone else had a simple rip out turn into a full subfloor repair once the carpet was up?
