Unpopular opinion: half the carpenters out there don't know how to sharpen their own chisels

I was on a job site in Tacoma last week and this guy hands me a chisel that couldn't cut butter. He said he's been using a grinder on it for 5 years. I showed him a water stone in 2 minutes and his face went blank like I just performed magic. Has anyone else run into this where guys just refuse to learn the basics?

Saw a guy using a bench grinder on a chisel once too, sparks flying everywhere, ruined the temper in like 5 seconds. It's wild how many people just wing it for years instead of spending 10 minutes learning the right way.

Yeah, 10 minutes of YouTube would've saved that chisel from a fiery death. Guess some people like learning the hard way.
