Why does nobody talk about rehearsing the answer when your boss asks what you want to do next
Last March my manager asked where I saw myself in two years and I gave some vague answer about "growing with the team." She emailed me the next day and wrote that my answer made her think I had no plan. That stung, but she was correct, so I spent a weekend writing down three roles I actually wanted and the skills I was missing for each one. When we met again in April I gave her a short list and asked which gaps she thought mattered most, and she set me up with a mentor on the spot. Has anyone else had a boss give them a blunt note like that, and did it help or just make things weird?
