TIL the best way to get a raise is to ask for a promotion first

I was stuck at the same salary for 2 years at my marketing job in Austin. My boss always said the budget was tight. Last month, I scheduled a meeting and didn't ask for more money. I laid out a plan for a new 'Lead Strategist' role I could grow into, with 3 new responsibilities I'd already started doing. They approved the new title last week, and the 15% raise came with it automatically. Has anyone else gotten a bigger bump by changing the job instead of just asking for more cash?

Smart move. I tried that once. My boss just gave me the extra work with the same old title. Classic.

Classic move from management, @the_henry. They love getting more work for the same pay, it's like a universal rule lol.
