I ignored the resume gap advice for 11 months and it cost me interviews
Six months after getting laid off from a call center in Boise, I was applying to 40 jobs a month and getting nothing back. A guy at a temp agency told me to stop listing my gap as a gap and just put the dates, so I did that for a while and still got passed over. What actually worked was rewriting the top of my resume as a skills summary instead of an objective line, and I got 3 callbacks in 2 weeks. I had been skeptical about those free resume review sites, but the one at the library downtown flagged that my resume had no numbers in it at all. Once I added things like handled 60 calls a day and cut my old team's backlog by half, the phone started ringing. Has anyone else had luck with a skills summary on top, or did something else break the ice for you?
