After a recruiting call with a VP of Sales, I'm torn on whether staying 'loyal' is hurting my career

The VP told me that in her 12 years at three different companies, nobody who stayed more than 2 years got promoted faster than someone who switched, so are job hoppers actually right or is her sample just biased and has anyone else heard similar from a higher-up?

Cable company loyalty? That hit way too close to home lmao.

The whole loyalty thing shows up everywhere, not just jobs. People stay with the same cable company for years out of habit, even when the new competitor down the street is half the price. Same with gyms, phone plans, even barbers. We get comfortable and think staying equals being a good person, but the market doesn't care about that. Companies are loyal to their numbers, not to you. That VP probably sees it from the other side, where hiring someone new is cheaper than giving a raise to the person who's already there. It sucks, but the math kind of speaks for itself.
