TIL a Halifax founder turned down a $60k grant because of the paperwork, and I did the same thing last spring
Friend of mine runs a small SaaS out of Halifax. He got offered 60k from a provincial program but the reporting needed 15 hours a week, so he walked. I hit the same wall with a co-op grant here in Hamilton back in April, took $0 instead of the money. Wondering if I was dumb. Anyone here actually finished one of these grant programs and think it was worth the desk time?
The "15 hours a week" part got me because I did the math on mine and it came out to like $19 an hour after all the logging and receipts. I turned down a co-op grant too and felt like a genius for about a week, then felt like a moron every time I checked my bank account. A buddy of mine actually finished one and he said the money was fine but he spent more time writing updates than building the thing. So at least we're in the same dumb boat, just different lakes.
