My supposedly waterproof tent from 3 years ago turned into a personal swimming pool during a downpour in the Smokies last week.

The floor seam gave out after about 20 minutes of heavy rain, and I spent the night in a damp sleeping bag on the picnic table shelter because everything inside was soaked.

Waterproof from 3 years ago" is the key part. That's a long time for a tent that gets used. Sunlight alone breaks down the coatings. I had a great tent fail after two seasons because I never re-sealed the seams. That floor seam is the first to go if you don't take care of it. A tent isn't a buy-it-for-life thing, it needs upkeep.

So did you at least get to practice your backstroke? Sounds like your tent upgraded itself to a water feature.
