My dad's old Coleman lantern from 1988 still lights on the first try, my 2019 LED one died on trip 3
I dug my dad's green Coleman lantern out of the garage last weekend before a trip to Red River Gorge and it fired right up with the same hiss I remember from being a kid. Meanwhile the $45 LED lantern I bought two summers ago won't hold a charge past an hour anymore. I get that stuff is cheaper and lighter now, but feels like we traded away gear that just keeps going. Anyone else hanging onto old gear because the new stuff quits on you?
The white gas ones will outlast us all because there's nothing in them to fail, just a generator tube and a mantel. The real kicker is the new LED stuff has a chip in it that's built to quit, so you can't even fix it yourself.
