My buddy in Colorado said my sleeping bag was way too heavy for backpacking
He pointed out my old Coleman bag weighed like 6 pounds and took up half my pack. Switched to a 30 degree down quilt that weighs under 2 pounds and it changed everything. Has anyone else had someone call out their gear and make them rethink their whole setup?

Your buddy did you a solid honestly. The weight difference is no joke when you start doing real miles. A six pound bag takes up way too much room and leaves you crammed for other essentials like food and water. Down quilts are the way to go for sure, just make sure you keep it dry or get one with some water resistant treatment on the shell. I have seen people switch and immediately start hiking faster and not dread the overnight setup. It really opens up what trips you can do when your pack isn't fighting you the whole way.

Dragged my buddy to REI after he made fun of my ancient heavy bag and he cried a little.
