Is it worth spending extra on a four-season tent if you mostly camp in summer?

I bought a budget three-season tent two years ago for about $90 and thought it was fine until a freak thunderstorm last June dumped rain all night. The fly barely held up and I ended up with puddles inside my tent. My buddy has a $250 four-season model he swears by, but he also camps in early spring and late fall when the weather is worse. For someone like me who only camps from June through August, I'm wondering if the extra cost is really needed. Has anyone else had a similar experience where a cheap tent failed in summer storms, or do you think a good three-season is enough?

man my bargain bin tent basically turned into a swimming pool during a surprise storm last summer, so I feel your pain but that $250 price tag still hurts my wallet just thinking about it lol

gray_gibson nailed it. Skip the four-season, just spend $120 on a decent three-season.
