Vent: dropped $70 on a hiking staff with a built in compass and it broke on day 2
I bought one of those fancy trekking staffs with the compass on top for a 3 day trip in the White Mountains last month. The compass spun loose from the handle on the second day and the whole thing bent when I leaned on it going downhill. Has anyone else had gear fall apart on the first trip, or did I just pick a bad one?
$70 for a stick with a compass on it sounds like you paid for the fancy look more than the actual build. Most of those combo gadgets are just cheap add ons glued to a normal pole. A compass on a hiking staff is a gimmick anyway, you already have one on your phone or a map. Day 2 is rough but thats what you get when you buy the swiss army knife version of gear.
