Thought I packed the tent poles but actually left them on the driveway

Drove 3 hours to a site near Mount Rogers. Got there at dusk. Opened the trunk and the poles were sitting right where I had leaned them against the house. Had to sleep in the car with a sleeping bag. Took me 20 minutes to realize I wasn't getting the tent up no matter how many times I checked the bag.

Maybe it's just bad systems not bad memory." Hard disagree @calebrivera.

The driveway thing is brutal man, sorry that happened. I swear there's a whole pattern where we set something down to keep it safe and then it just disappears from our brain, like the act of setting it down erases the memory of doing it. I've done this with my keys at least four times this month, put them on the kitchen counter to grab my coffee and then spent twenty minutes digging through couch cushions. It's like our brains have a specific slot for "things I'm actively carrying" and once we put them down, they vanish from that mental checklist. The worst part is how confident you feel checking the bag, because your brain is certain you completed the task of packing them, but the memory of leaving them at home is just a blank spot. Hope the car camping wasn't too rough and at least the stars were good out there.
