Remember when you had to actually read a paper map? Got totally turned around in the Ocala National Forest once.

Tbh, my old trail guide was wrong about a creek crossing and we ended up a mile off course in the dark. We just stopped, set up the tent right there, and waited for morning. Anyone else have a story about a map leading them astray?

Totally get that feeling of being lost with a bad map. Had a similar thing happen on a hiking trip in the Smokies where an old guidebook showed a bridge that was long gone. We spent over an hour bushwhacking along the riverbank looking for it before giving up. Makes you realize how much we just trust those printed directions. Honestly, that kind of mix-up is probably how most good campfire stories start.

Yeah, @eric_wright77, that bushwhacking sounds exactly like my kind of bad luck.
