Appreciation post: I saw three groups at Lake Tahoe last month pack their entire campsite into one bear canister, which is a huge mistake because it forces the lid open just enough for a determined bear to get a claw in.

Wait, you're saying a bear actually got the lid off a properly sealed canister? That honestly scares me because I always thought those things were basically invincible if you twisted the lid right.

Saw a ranger once who said to pack the canister like you're building a brick wall, not just stuffing it. Alternate the way things lay so there aren't any big gaps.
